Xiaomi and Samsung may join the Always Connected Windows 10 PC:
The Microsoft Qualcomm partnership, announced in December, promised Always Connected Windows 10 PCs with the latter's Snapdragon 835 processor. Lenovo, HP and Asus were early users. But a new report suggests that two more heavyweights from the tech group could join the group, names that are not normally associated with PCs.
Samsung and Xiaomi, better known for their smartphones and tablets, have reportedly agreed to join the program. Above all, Xiaomi began last year with the notebook Mi Notebook Air, which gained a lot of ground in China as an always-connected PC with Intel processor. On the other hand, Samsung will unveil a laptop line sometime next year.
The Snapdragon ARM chips are traditionally known for tablets and mobile phones, while the Intel x86 architecture is perfect for laptops and desktops. But switching to Snapdragon chipsets for laptops would be a good choice given the emphasis on better battery life, missing fans and a streamlined form factor. However, it remains to be seen if the Snapdragon can deliver the performance of an x86.
Snapdragon 835-based PCs would take advantage of integrated LTE support for their X16 modem for today's 4G wireless providers. Add in connected standby mode, which allows users to jump online right after they wake up their PC.
Remember, this is just a first report, so we'll have to wait and see if Xiaomi and Samsung will offer anything in the next few months.
Arouse interest in the way! Earlier this month, Microsoft introduced the new Always Connected PC line, appearing to have drawn interest from some of the largest hardware makers.
In fact, Qualcomm introduced them in their activities.
Although the number of hardware vendors present at the show is small, vendors such as Asus, Hewlett-Packard and Lenovo are early adopters, and several other vendors are now joining.
Samsung and millet are said to be interested in this.
Keep in mind that these are still early rumors, even if they come from fairly reliable sources. We need the confirmation of others to really know if Samsung and Xiaomi are ready to provide anything in the coming months.
In other words, this potential development is not surprising at all.
Snapdragon ARM chips are traditionally housed in tablets and smartphones, while Intel x86 is considered the perfect architecture for laptops and desktops. The move by Qualcomm's laptop is big news because it gives PC makers more freedom in designing their systems.
Including devices that create better battery life, a more streamlined form factor, and wireless 4G LTE connectivity. They also canceled the cooling fan, changed one.
The only part of solving the problem is performance. Keep in mind, however, that QUALCOMM is rapidly improving performance for each generation, and that these times may not be too far away from the places where these types of devices provide respectable performance.
However, the arrival of Samsung and millet will only help promote these devices, so I hope we can see some of the actions of these companies.
